As moons pass, RougeClan has been getting bolder and bolder. The leader, Darkness has been busy dealing with a far away ‘Clan’ leader to help him play out the dark leader’s next evil plans. Meanwhile, the medicine cats have received a mysterious prophecy:
RougeClan is racing harder than ever to catch them...
Claws so close to all we hold dear...
A solitary threat, whom brings destruction from the mountains...
The end is near.
However, with dawn brings a traveler, and a forgotten friend.
There will be hope.
After the first Gathering of the Clans in moons, the Clans notice the diminished activity of RougeClan, and they start to forget the danger.
During the Gathering, Darkness, and the mountain/RougeClan cats lay siege on the WindClan camp. The unguarded camp is taken over easily, without much fight due to the number of cats in the camp and cats that were raiding. When the Gathering party returns, Greifstar senses something is wrong, but can’t tell exactly what it happening. Suddenly, the great WindClan leader is ambushed, and swiftly knocked out but the powerful paws of a mountain cat, the rest of the Clan cats are taken hostage.
Now the mountain cats are lead by two cats, Night of No Stars and Swifttail. These cats aren’t your normal lithe Clan cats, the mountain cats are big, strong, and intimidating.
ThunderClan and RiverClan are startled by the sudden attack by RougeClan, startled at how swift the Clan ‘grew’, not only in size, but also in strength. Swiftstar and Leopardstar chased out of their territories, and forced to live beyond ThunderClan territory, the territory of one of the great and legendary Tribes. However, ShadowClan is unharmed, and Darkstar still has all of the lives he had before he left for the Gathering.
Vultureclaw becomes leader of ThunderClan, and Viperpaw and several RiverClan born RougeClan warriors fight for the leader position, because Brackendrop simply refuses to take the position from Leopardstar, the true leader of RiverClan. Hawkflight becomes leader of WindClan, but she isn’t allowed to go to the Moonpool, same with the other two new leaders. However, she manages to sneak out with Brezzefall when every mountain cat is distracted, and manages to get to the Moonpool, and get back before anyone notices. Once, the two leaders put into exile return with cats from the Tribes, but fail to regain control of the Clans, worrying the Clans and the leader’s families.
However, with RougeClan in full reign, Darkness and Night get more rueful. Not soon after taking over, the two leaders order the ‘sub-leaders’ to take all the newborn kits from their mothers, and bring them to the RougeClan camp, so the RougeClan queens can care for them. Since the mountain cats do not believe in allowing elders into the Clans, one of their first acts is to rid of all the disabled or elderly cats who have eared this right, getting rid of the elders.
The half moon after the raid comes around, but when the medicine cats try to press their new ‘leaders’ to let them go to the Moonpool, even if the ‘leaders’ allow it, a mountain cat is always blocking the way. Soon Darkness and Night decide to persecute the medicine cats, forcing them beyond their territories, and into hiding with the leaders.
Moons later, kits have been swelling the RougeClan nursery, the ‘Clans’ peaceful under the joint rule, Night starts planning to take over RougeClan for himself, pretending that he will let Deathblood become leader, if the RougeClan deputy helps him. Not even a quarter moon later, Darkness is dead, but Night proclaims to the Clan that he is the new leader, not Deathblood, and then he starts his acts in his own new Clan. It is up to Deathblood, and the Clans, to regain their way of life, and take Night out of power, but can they do it?
